Workshop Series
In addition to our Parents Supporting Parents Mentoring Program, Most Valuable Parents of Buffalo (MVP) offers our Parent 2 Parent Workshop Series—a welcoming space where parents and caregivers can learn, connect, share experiences, and support one another.
The workshop series is open to all parents and caregivers and is offered at multiple community locations to make participation accessible and convenient for families.
What We Explore
Our workshops incorporate lessons and activities inspired by two powerful resources:
Search Institute’s When Parents Ask for Help: An Asset-Building Lens
Participants explore the 40 Developmental Assets that help young people grow and thrive. The first 20 are external assets, including support, empowerment, boundaries, and positive relationships. The remaining 20 are internal assets that help develop positive identity, social competencies, values, purpose, and healthy decision-making.
Stephen Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
Parents are introduced to practical habits and strategies that can help them become more intentional, productive, and effective in their personal lives and relationships with their children.
Building Stronger Families Together
Through active reading, discussion, listening, and sharing, parents and caregivers have an opportunity to learn from one another while developing practical tools to strengthen parent-child relationships and support their children’s success at home and in school.
Participants will:
- Take part in interactive lessons and discussions
- Develop the tools needed to make a personal family action plan
- Learn practical strategies they can use at home
- Build stronger relationships with their children
- Learn ways to support their children’s educational success
- Connect with and learn from other parents and caregivers
- Develop a supportive network within the community
Each Cohort Includes
7–10 sessions
90 minutes per session
Interactive workshops and group discussions
Refreshments
Raffles and giveaways, including gift baskets and gift cards
If the venue is equipped they will play Kahoot at the end of the sessions
Our goal is simple: to create a safe, supportive environment where parents can learn, grow, and encourage one another while building stronger families and healthier relationships with the school system.
So far we have held sessions at Bennett high, East High, Lafayette high and Martha Mitchell Community Center.
